How do you get inspired as an artist?

We all have creative spirits within us. We often find our richest resources of creative inspiration through our travels, meeting other people and reading. I keep all my ideas in a binder. I cannot remember everything but creativity can really go a long way if we just put our minds to it.

I was motivated to write this subject and I would like to share my thoughts to everyone because my daughter got the Most Inspirational Award in Rio District today. The school district is consist of eight schools with 500 + kids. So, to be one of the 20 kids awarded for this award is such a blessing and honor. I was inspired when the Superintendent read this composition by Mother Theresa that is called, "Do it Anyway" :

"People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.

If you are succcessful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway. "

As an artist, we sometimes struggle, get discouraged or we get "information overload". But don't give up. Just keep on going. What we create today could be someones inspiration.

How do you inspired as an artist? Let me know what you think...

  5. Sometimes my inspiration comes out of the cold blue sky. But, if I'm in a dry spell, I find that exposing myself to the art of other artists is a sure fire way to get me excited about the creative experience again. Once that excitement is reignited, my creativity starts to flow again.

I've found the net to be a god-send in this way, as there is so much art on the net. One can be exposed to such a wealth of design and creativity without even leaving the house! What a blessing to not have to wait until I have the time to shop, visit a museum or gallery, or take a class!

I also keep tons of photos of great work on my computer, so that when I think "why am I doing this anyway?" I can look at these photos of amazing work and remember, "Oh yeah! I'm doing this because the possibilities are endless. Because beauty *matters*! Because creativity is essentially a spiritual process, and without it, a part of us shrivels up and dies.
